Geralt of Rivia | The Witcher - Work in Progress

Work In Progress / 28 May 2026

I am excited to start a new personal project: creating my own version of Geralt of Rivia, the Butcher of Blaviken. This project is heavily inspired by the incredible work of Max Bianchini, and my goal is to push my realistic character art skills to the next level.

This is a non-official fan art project.

Day 1: Initial Head Blockout

  1. Just fast first blockout and playing around with zbrush canvas

Day 2: First render in Maya

  1. Exported high poly mesh to Maya
  2. Added some basic materials and reference balls

Day 3: Basic textures

  1. Added some details in ZBrush
  2. UV mapped with UV Master
  3. exported low poly & high poly to substance painter
  4. baked mesh maps & added basic fill layer with mesh filter
  5. exported textures to maya
  6. imported all stuff and configured correctly with Hypershade
  7. Rendered low poly with textures in Arnold

Day 4: Teeth

  1. Added teeth in Zbrush
  2. All subtools have low & high subdivision
  3. Started creating paint layers (red, blue, yellow, etc.) in Substance 3D Painter
  4. Rendered with raw Zbrush details (highpoly), because something is wrong with Maya Arnols with normals textures (losing detail, i have to fix this)

Day 5: Displacement

  1. Exported 32bit exr displacement in Zbrush
  2. Added displacement texture to shader in Hypershade
  3. Apply textures from previous day, because finally it looks good

I will update this every day, so stay tuned :)
